WordPress Admin Themes

While checking up on the Shuttle project [via], i read about an up-and-coming idea: WordPress Admin Themes. I guess the idea has really been around for a while, but the SpotPress and WP Tiger Administration plugins are some of the first fleshed-out examples (at least that i’ve seen—not that i’m mad deep in the scene, or anything). And they both look great. Admin theming might be right up my alley. I seem to be more adept at restyling or modifying existing things (à la LCD and MySpace), rather than cookin’ up entire themes from scratch. As Steve Smith said there’s also the Zen Garden-esque challenge of working within constraints of an existing system.

  1. For building blogs for customers, how great would it be to be able to brand the admin panel in a close-to-similar fashion that you branded their site? It doesn’t need to be a total conversion, just have a basic colour scheme option and placeholder for logo, title, etc.

  2. Similarly, Basecamp lets you pick a color scheme and assign a logo for the site. I’m guessing it wouldn’t be too difficult to do this by hand in WordPress, but you’re probably suggesting a built-in feature. There may be a plugin that does this.

See it it’s already been suggested. Though i’d guess they wouldn’t add funtionality like this into the base WordPress code.
