Man on Fire (2004)
I had never seen it, but everyone always said it was great. It was also recommended for stylistic notes like the dynamic subtitling.
I have to admit that it was a neat way to do subtitles, and the film had an amazing look—lots of unusual use of shadows and depth of field in really interesting sets and locations. But revenge stories don’t always play right with me. And i don’t really like Dakota Fanning.
It’s also really long.
I thought it was a good movie but i actually thought that Denzel’s character was lacking too much. Yes, he finally built a bond with the irresistably adorable Fanning but what else? I needed to know more about how he got to that point…Just my opinion. Whatever. I don’t even know if it was only specifically that about his character that I didn’t like but there was something that seemed to be missing from him. I don’t like a lot of unanswered questions about my movies characters.
I rented that movie and watched it alone last year: not the best idea. I really like Dakota, but her character was eerily mature in this movie. I hope when we finally watch “I AM SAM” you’ll adjust your opinion about her.
