Hidalgo (2004)

Hidalgo DVD cover First of all, as a rule, i don’t like sports movies. Because they always win. But this one was kinda interesting.

It was incredibly long in duration and a little slow at times. But unlike the last movie i watched, some incredible looks were painted to express the various temperaments of the desert. There was a good bit of visual effects used, some more convincing than others. The roof-top shootout was interesting—it was obvisouly green-screened, and looked almost like a side-scrolling video game how they were jumping and running with an almost-matching background passing behind them. Even though it didn’t look “real,” it had a neat look to it that somehow made the scene more fun for me.

There were a lot of layers to the story (maybe too many?), and i’ll probably have to figure out what i think about it a little more before i go any further.

  1. saw this in the theater and then again at home. The storyline was good. They did a lot to really make you understand the relationship between this man and his horse(apparently based on a true story). I agree there were a lot undertones, almost like all the mentioned points were important to the story but no one could decide when or how to include them. Initially, it was not my favorite movie and watching him doing an indian chant was uncomfortable in a movie theater for some reason. When I saw it a 2nd time I appreciated it more.
