The Island (2005)
Watched this across two nights. And wasn’t even totally watching it at that. Put it in initially to check the screen’s brightness and colors—i knew this was a pretty vivid looking movie. So it just kinda stayed on as background noise.
I seem to be on a future-themed trend lately with this, Minority Report, and I, Robot. Though The Island is on the weaker end of the spectrum as far as futuristic visions go. It’s supposed to be a couple decades or so in the future, but all the cars are current models with body kits. There’s some “new” stuff, but it’s not all new. It’s incomplete and uneven. They fly a regular old helicopter, but also zip through the city on hover jet bikes.
Definitely some Michael Bay cornball crap. Being that, it’s got its over-the-top entertaining parts (ridiculous chases, and priceless cars being destroyed. And, of course, everything is high-contrast magic hour. And Steve Buscemi.
