Just read about Defensio as an alternative to WordPress’ in-built Akismet for catching comment spam, and decided to give a try. I tend to get a few odd false-negatives every week with Akismet. And i’m just wondering if there’s something else that can catch it all, because every single one of them are so very obviously spam to me. I hope i haven’t been getting any false-positives (real comments marked as spam), because i never check. Akismet says it has caught 34,866 spam since i first installed it. I’ll report back in a few weeks.

Defensio’s stats as of October 01:

• Recent accuracy: 99.60%
• 868 spam
• 1 legitimate comments
• 2 false negatives (undetected spam)
• 0 false positives (legitimate comments identified as spam)

Several “Comments could not processed by Defensio” and went to moderation last week. I haven’t had any problems since.
